Storm Staff Member Pete Dohan Compares The 900 Global Reality, Storm Physix & Roto Grip UFO Bowling Balls

Storm staff member and PBA champion Pete Dohan discusses the differences in bowling ball motion between the 900 Global Reality, Storm Physix and Roto Grip UFO bowling balls.

Storm Physix Bowling Ball

The development of the new PhysiX has been a?sprawling process that has spanned several years. Dialing in the precise dynamics of a shape that is iconic to the Storm brand was our ambition, and the PhysiX became our destination. Yes, it officially boasts a 0.053 total differential in a 15 pound ball, and the rest of its prodigious oomph accepts credit from the strategically placed inlets surrounding the oval bolt and greater mass displacement along the z-axis creating an enhanced intermediate differential. With extreme amounts of power and dynamics, the PhysiX almost feels like cheating.

Firmly ensconced at the top of the Storm performance heap is the all-new Atomic Core.

900 Global Reality Bowling Ball

The ALL-NEW Reality brings a solid version of the incredibly strong S84 Response cover to the table. Combined with a revolutionary core, the Reality will be the strongest ball 900 Global offers!

The S84 Response solid cover utilizes a technology that promotes up to 20% larger pore sizes. By offering this cover in a 2000 Abralon finish, we have ensured maximum traction in the heaviest of oil. The Reality will rival the original Volatility in terms of overall hook.

The Disturbance Asymmetric core creates asymmetry by having differing shapes on the bottom and top of the weight block. This core was designed with a focus on a shape that will fill a space with the least amount of material, yet still yield the RG/Diff values that all bowlers demand.

CORE
E.T.™ Core = Equalizer Technology™ Core… This space aged creation was developed with built in cavities to emulate the use of an extra hole since as of August 2020 the USBC deems them illegal. The built in “Equalizer Cavities” will help increase midlane motion and continuation down lane.

COVER
The newest formulation of our forever famous MicroTrax Technology will create great traction in the heaviest of oils. The MicroTrax-S20™ Solid Reactive coverstock is mixed with a higher nano ratio which means more grab throughout the entire lane.

CONDITION
E.T. Core = Increased Core Motion… MicroTrax-S20 Solid Reactive Cover = Increased Traction in Oil… We wanted to get ahead of the USBC rule change and create a ball that will help those who are used to using a ball with an extra hole in it… We believe in higher scores, so it was only fair to create a bowling ball that is out of this world in terms of technology!

Bonus Comparison - Storm Proton Physix Bowling Ball

Think Like a Proton. Always Positive.

It’s really no surprise why the PhysiX and AstroPhysiX have been wildly popular ever since their respective debuts. After all, the PhysiX offers one of the shapeliest reactions available, and the AstroPhysiX follows it up with stellar performance when the pattern opens up, and more length and backend are required. But until now, there really hasn’t been a PhysiX truly suited for heavy oil. Well, consider the problem solved! The Proton PhysiX is here to give you traction and hook on virtually any heavy oil condition imaginable.

Since surface plays such a pivotal role in ball reaction, we knew that we had to select just the right coverstock and finish in order to make the Proton PhysiX live up to its billing. That’s why we selected NeX Solid Reactive for this big-hooking beast. NeX has met and exceeded all of our expectations in the lab and on the lanes, combining the robust midlane read you’d expect from a heavy oil ball while maintaining the strong entry angle needed in order to maximize pin carry. The NeXon the Proton PhysiX will come in a 2000-grit box finish and with an eye-catching magenta, black, and violet color scheme that will look good on the rack, in your bag, and on the lanes.

The Atomic Core returns to power up this latest PhysiX offering. Strong backend motion, continuation, and pocket-crushing power are all hallmarks of the Atomic Core. In the Proton PhysiX, this low-RG, high-differential engine will deliver the same combination of consistency and power that has always made it popular among bowlers of all styles, and it will do it on the longest and heaviest oil patterns placed before you. The Proton PhysiX shining attribute is the Atomic Core with a super-low RG that helps generate spin. This extremely center-heavy mass gets the ball moving in a dangerous way, providing the ball with added responsiveness and rewarding the player who can roll it with authority. The AstroPhysiX is an excellent option for players who like to swing big and want some extra backend leverage to give their game a boost

Bonus Comparison - Roto Grip RST X1 Bowling Ball

It’s ok, you can thank us later!

RST – Roto Star Tour Core…
Professional bowlers like to see continuous motion down lane with minimal deflection as the ball enters the pocket due to their rev rates usually being on the higher side. This logic was the basis of development by the R&D team as they looked to create a core that would maintain dynamics after drilling in order to maintain a higher level of core torque down lane. The larger mass at the base of the core does indeed create that. Especially since when drilled, the thumbhole will always end up near the bottom of the void area not to affect the bottom mass of the core all that much. Thus, making this core a “Tour Level” type core design.

Behind the X-1 name…
When it all began back in the early 1950’s, Roto Star (later known as Roto Grip) quickly became known as the “High Performance Bowling Ball Specialists.”

Because of this industry leading mantra, and with the latest creation of the Roto Star Tour Core, it only made sense to go back in time to recapture the vibe and pay homage to those balls that set the standard for technology and development.

That is how the RST X-1 was born!
