The Perfect USBC Nationals Team Build With 2X USBC OC Champion Matt Tuckfield – RealLife Bowlers Podcast 9

Real Life Bowling Podcast Episode 9

With Anthony Caso and Chris Polizzi

Welcome To The RealLife Bowling Podcast

We have used this first podcast is an introduction to our channel and to ourselves. The main point was to share information and our experience with bowlers of all skill levels. We touch on topics anywhere from layouts to ball motion and what it’s like bowling on tour. We offer a unique perspective, being that we are both pro-shop operators. Because of this, we are able to give you yet another perspective from that side of the industry. We wanted this first introduction to be as organic as possible, which is why we chose not to have certain points we wanted to touch upon.  Having known each other for years we felt this was the best way to approach this podcast to keep it as natural as possible.

Talking About How To Construct A Winning Team For The USBC Open Championships

Our 9th podcast features an individual who has accomplished something that very few people in the bowling industry ever have. Matt Tuckfield is a two-time winner at the USBC Open Championships. His two eagles have come in the team all-events category which is arguably the most difficult to win.

He discusses how he thinks a team should be built and also tells us all about his journey to winning his eagles. Matt starts by describing how he feels a team for nationals should be built. He doesn’t discuss skill but more so talks about team chemistry and energy. He feels that it doesn’t take the five best bowlers on the planet to be successful, but rather five people who perform well together. He said once he felt part of the team that’s when the success started to show. How Matt ended up on the eventual nationals winning team was a pretty funny story. A friend of his couldn’t bowl last minute and he was thrown onto a team of guys whom he’d never met and had no connection to. He said the earlier years he felt pressure being the young new guy, but quickly found his way and became a staple of the team. He and his teammate Jeff Mersch are now the best of friends all from just bowling nationals together. As the podcast goes on we learn that Matt and his team have been painfully close to more eagle’s throughout the years. He talks about a situation where he had a chance to take the lead in an event and he let the moment get too big and overwhelm him. He has learned mental toughness and ultimate trust in his teammates through the years bowling these events. The whole team is eager to get back to the lanes and win another eagle in the 2021 event.
