What is crackin’ bowlers Chris beans here with Bowler’s Rant and today we are taking a look at the Top 5 discontinued bowling balls from Storm and Roto Grip. That’s right, and these are the good ones, and you’re gonna want to gran one of these because once they’re gone, they’re gone! So let’s get into it.

#5 - Roto Grip Halo Vision Bowling Ball

Coming in at #5 – The Roto Grip Halo Vision bowling ball.

This was their asymmetric hybrid that came with surface and it’s an absolute monster added to the discontinued list. Just to revisit on the specs briefly E-Trax-H19 hybrid reactive cover stock it’s got the Centrum core. So it’s part pearl part solid, the color golden sky-blue on the pearl side purple on the solid side and it comes out of finish a 4000 grit Abralon. And the numbers at 15 pounds 2.49rg with a .050 differential at .018 asymmetric differential. So really good shelf appeal great for heavy load condition added to the discontinued list. You’re gonna want to grab one of these while you can.

The forever famous Centrum Core has now established itself as one of the best asymmetrical cores in Roto Grip history. With its cube type shape and radial disc shape through the middle, continuous motion best describes this core in action.

Part solid, part pearl and surface texture out of the box means this ball will be cleaner through the front of the lane than the original HALO. Yet it will not be as long down the lane as the HALO Pearl, thus providing a super versatile ball that can be sanded more, or even shined up if so desired. Think Defiant Soul on steroids!

#4 - Storm Pro Motion Bowling Ball

Coming in at #4 the Storm Pro Motion bowling ball.

This was the recent Belmo ball and this was a really interesting concoction because it came with the Spec cover stock and the piston weight block. Just to get back to revisit again spec solid reactive cover stock symmetrical weight block 2,000 grit Abralon. And the numbers at 15 pounds 2.52 RG with .049 differential. So all in all this is a really good offering for the you know high rev crowd the fragrances vanilla snap and if you want something that’s going to give you some pop in the back but that gives you a finite level of control and still some smoothness motion, this is a ball to grabs before it’s gone.

To create this very special PRO-Motion, Jason teamed up Storm?s Research and Development department to create a weight block design that is unique and benefits bowlers of all styles. It is a dynamic symmetrical piece that has some very unique characteristics. For bowlers looking to roll their best scores, the PRO-Motion gives total performance from foul line to head pin with a ball motion akin to the pros’.

The Piston core brings with it months of testing and validation in conjunction with the best player of our time: Jason Belmonte. Developed specifically for his line, the Piston Core creates separate helical archs that make the shape corkscrew as it tumbles. You can see the channels on the sides of the Piston Core and the large band through the equator which displaces the mass in a very specific way.

#3 - Roto Grip Halo Pearl Bowling Ball

Coming in at #3 – the Roto Grip Halo Pearl bowling ball.

This is an absolute house shot monster and was really appreciated by bowlers around the world. Let’s quickly revisit the specs this had the E-Trax-P18 pearl reactive cover stock and it featured the Centrum core. The color coal fuchsia sky blue, really liked the color on this one. The finish was 1500 grit polished and the numbers at 15 pounds 2.49 RG with the .050 differential and a .018 asymmetric differential. This was one of those balls that basically everybody loved for the house condition, gave you plenty of length plenty of snap on the back and that way block just does not stop. Added to the discontinued list I see a lot of people grabbing these and holding on to them and will be selling them when supplies are out and they will probably push for two hundred to two hundred twenty-five dollar shipped on eBay so grab one while you can while supplies last.

The now famous Centrum Core has quickly become a fan favorite due to the radial disc which helps increase rotation/continuation for all styles of players. This core is driller and bowler friendly which means no matter how you drill it or how you throw it, it always gets rolling.

The eTrax-P18™ Pearl Reactive cover was first introduced on the IDOL Pearl. It is the newest pearl formulation that will be used on HP4 & HP3 balls moving forward. This cover provides a good footprint in oil while still maintaining a strong responsive reaction to friction.

This ball was desinged to be the perfect compliment to the original HALO. Sure, both balls feature the same core. However, the big difference is the coverstocks. Wrapping this core with the eTrax Pearl cover creates motion in a completely different part of the lane. If you were to drill a HALO Pearl and a HALO the exact same, you would see approximately 6-8 feet more skid, which transcends into A LOT MORE BACKEND!

#2 - Storm Physix Bowling Ball

OK coming in at #2 is the Storm PhysiX bowling ball.

This is an asymmetric hybrid that Storm came out with had a ton of differential a ton of striking power and a Nano based cover stock. Let’s quickly revisit the specs it’s got the NRG hybrid reactive cover stock and asymmetric weight block with the atomic core, and it’s got a finish of three thousand grit Abralon. And the numbers at fifteen pounds 2.48rg with .053 differential and a .017 asymmetric differential. So all in all really good looking ball hybrid you can use it as first ball out of the bag on a house condition that provides you at least enough oil to get the ball down the lane. Of course you can use this as a tournament ball plenty of opportunities to change the surface all in all a great package and now on the discontinued list you’re gonna want to grab one of these while supplies last.

The development of the new PhysiX has been a?sprawling process that has spanned several years. Dialing in the precise dynamics of a shape that is iconic to the Storm brand was our ambition, and the PhysiX became our destination. Yes, it officially boasts a 0.053 total differential in a 15 pound ball, and the rest of its prodigious oomph accepts credit from the strategically placed inlets surrounding the oval bolt and greater mass displacement along the z-axis creating an enhanced intermediate differential. With extreme amounts of power and dynamics, the PhysiX almost feels like cheating.

Firmly ensconced at the top of the Storm performance heap is the all-new Atomic Core. Yes, it officially boasts a 0.053 total differential in a 15 pound ball, and the rest of its prodigious oomph accepts credit from the strategically placed inlets surrounding the oval bolt and greater mass displacement along the z-axis creating an enhanced intermediate differential.

#1 - Roto Grip Idol Pro Bowling Ball

Coming in at #1 – the Roto Grip Idol Pro bowling ball.

this is in their HP three line and I gotta tell you I’m really sad to see this one go. This ball is an absolute beast, it’s straight-up reactive resin with a 3,000 grit sheen and speaking of specs let’s just quickly revisit that. This has the etrax-s19 solid reactive cover stock and it features the icon core and it comes at ocean blue with a 3000 grit Sheen finish which pretty much means it was polished and then hit with some surface, so you got Sheen instead of shine. And of course the numbers at 15 pounds 2.49rg with .052 differential. this is a ball that was more angular than the original Idol just gave you a ton of versatility, Sport Shop, house shot, any shot, pick your shot and your layout and you’re off to the races. So now that it’s added to the discontinued list you’re gonna want to grab a few of these if you can because once they’re gone they’re gone not back and they’re gonna cost more for $200 on eBay when people start putting them out there when they’re gone from your pro shop.

Inside you will find the now famous Ikon Core. This is by far the best low RG / high diff symmetrical core we have ever offered in the HP3 line. It provide plenty of flare and continuation.

On the outside you will find our newest solid creation in the eTrax-S19 cover. This formulation was created over the last couple months to create more traction in oil without reading the lane too quickly. Then we finished it with a Sheen which means we factory polished it and then scuffed it with 3000 before we boxed it.

Bottom line, this ball is just different. We decided to make this a “Pro” version by way of the coverstock finish. The 3000-grit Sheen marks the first time we have ever offered this at Roto Grip. In our testing we found this formula of solid with a sheen finish creates push through the front of the lane with more control at the breakpoint. Compared to a shiny IDOL, the IDOL Pro has more shape down lane because it does not have the added nano particle in the cover.

And there you have it, top 5 discontinued bowling balls for Storm and Roto Grip. Again these balls are gonna go up in value once you can’t get them anymore it’s very common to see older Storm and Roto Grip bowling balls north of $200 sometimes $300 on eBay or the Facebook forums. So what do you think of this list, would you grab one, would you guys multiple and if so what layouts would you choose? Drop me a comment let me know let’s continue the conversation! More updates are coming and thanks for watching!
