“Bring Back Bowling” rally to be held this Saturday at Lancer Lanes

posted by Mike Pettinella

Normally this time of the year, Lancer lanes would be hosting tournaments. But right now, the lanes are empty.

“We were all ready to go. We were all ready to get back in the swing of things, and then told that we couldn’t open up. It’s really hard,” Lance Rinard, the bowling alley’s owner said.

After closing its doors March 26th, Lancer Lanes was gearing up for a July 31st reopening. But that changed when Governor Jay Inslee extended his Safe Start Proclamation.

“It felt like I got punched in the stomach. It was unbelievable,” Rinard said.

Since shutting down, Lancer Lanes has laid off 45 employees. Bowling won’t reopen in Washington until phase four, but Rinard believes a safe reopening is possible right now.

“we can regulate how many people come in here,” he said. “When we do open play were talking about doing every other lane so people aren’t together.”

With bowling available at orchard lanes in Lewiston, Rinard asks ‘Why not Clarkston?’

“Bowling is open in 45 states right now,” he said.

That’s why they plan to rally on Saturday, National Bowling Day. To try and make it known that they want bowling back.

When asked what he was looking forward to most whenever bowling can reopen in Washington, Rinard said he was excited to welcome back the bowlers.

“The employees are anxious to get back to work, the customers are anxious to come back and bowl,” he said.

The rally will be held at Lancer Lanes in Clarkston from 11 a.m. to noon. Rinard asks that attendees social distance and wear masks. Water will be provided.
