From track star to U.S. Army to the bowling lanes, Mesquite resident is a standout
A huge fan of the Oakland Raiders, USC football and the late Muhammad Ali, Miller served in the United States Army right out of high school just as his father and brothers before him.
In other action, a terrific effort by Bob Ballard (726-264, 236, 224) led to his first 700 since returning to the lanes from a 10-year hiatus. His standout series included 22 strikes and a nine-bagger in a clean 264.
Scores rocketed higher at the Virgin River Bowling Center, and Leon Miller carved up the lanes with one of the biggest of all after pounding the pocket for 26 strikes during consistent games of 245, 242 and 232 that paved the way for a standout 719 series.
He’s been a great addition to the local bowling scene since he moved to Mesquite in the fall of 2020, and ever since has been winning accolades for his bowling skills. His resume sports numerous 700s, a career-high 771 series and 289 game, and his favorite bowlers are Chris Barnes and Mark Roth.
On his high school track and field team, Miller ran the 440, along with the 440 relay and mile relay teams. Amazingly, on his same track team was Valerie Brisco-Hooks who later went on to win three gold medals in the 1984 Olympics.
