Luke Rosdahl Rated Rumble: Storm Astro PhysiX vs Storm Dark Code Bowling Ball

How does the Astro Physix compare to the storm dark code bowling ball

Storm Astro Physix Bowling Ball

The Astro PhysiX features the tried and true R2S Pearl coverstock and the dynamic high torque Atomic core.  R2S Pearl is popular because of its unique blend of friction response or quickness with a higher amount of control than you usually see out of shiny quicker response covers, we’ve seen it on balls like the Hyroad Pearl, IQ Emerald, and Trend more recently.  The Atomic core comes in at a 2.48 RG, .053 differential, and .017 split or intermediate differential in 15 pounds.  With most of the other asyms in both catalogs coming in at 2.50 to 2.52 on the RG, the Atomic core surprises with the amount of shape it’s able to help generate with such a low RG, usually the lower the RG, the heavier the ball wants to roll and the earlier it wants to start up.  Atomic revs for sure, but saves a lot for a big backend motion also.  A big part of that is the pearl R2S cover, but even the PhysiX and NRG hybrid had a lot of boom.  Atomic reminds me of the ET core in the UFO, or going back a bit to the Rad X core in the Lock series.  With 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, I give the Astro a 7 for hook potential, a 7 for length, and an 8 for backend.  It’s closest to the Phaze 3 in hook potential, the Trend in length, and the Hyroad Pearl in backend strength.  Select the next comparison you’d like to see from the links on the screen, or scroll down to the description to find links to other choices.  Thanks for watching and may the strikes be with you.

Storm Dark Code Bowling Ball

The Dark Code features the new ReX pearl coverstock and extremely strong asymmetric RAD4 core.  ReX is a blend or combination of the NeX pearl cover from the Axiom Pearl, and the legendary R2S pearl cover from balls like the Hyroad Pearl, IQ Emerald, and Astro PhysiX to name a few recent ones.  Together they combine the strength and lane blending of NeX with the consistency and friction response of R2S.  The RAD4 core which has been in dozens of Code line releases has a 2.50 RG, .058 differential and a .020 split or intermediate differential, making it one of the strongest cores out there.  It creates a very familiar strong, rolly, and continuous motion which feels a lot like a stronger symmetric core with a lot more torque.  ReX and the RAD4 core together in the Dark Code makes for the strongest shiny ball I’ve ever thrown outside of maybe the Parallax Effect.  The Dark is slightly earlier and rounder, but also a bit smoother.  The ball motion and shape reminds me naturally of balls like the Code Black and Astro PhysiX, but orders of magnitude stronger.  You’ll feel the difference less on regular league conditions, but on any kind of volume, the Dark is still going to dig hard while the Black and Astro begin to fade.  I rate the Dark Code a 9 for hook, a 5 for length, and a 7 for backend strength.  It’s closest to the RST X-1 on hook, the Parallax Effect on length, and the Zen on backend.  Select the next comparison you’d like to see from the links on the screen or scroll down to the description to find links to other choices.  Thanks for watching and may the strikes be with you.

Storm dark code bowling ball

If you need the perfect combination of mid-lane roll and backend reactivity with head-turn pin carry, the Dark Code should be your very first choice. Easy power and a gorgeous look? Sign us up.

The Dark Code features an extremely dense modified disc technology shape called the RAD4 Core. First introduced in the X-Factor™ series, RAD (Radial Accelerating Disc) technology produces, bar none, more torque and entry angle than traditional asymmetrical cores. It’s the new standard for high performance.

Some bowling balls immediately sink their teeth into the lane in order to provide traction in oil. Others glide through the front part of the lane with ease, saving all their energy for an explosive backend reaction. But, what happens when you have a ball that’s capable of offering both? Well, at Storm, we wanted to find out, and that’s how we came up with the Dark Code – a ball that’s so good, it’s almost evil!

The engineering may be complicated, but the simple truth of the Dark Code is as confidence inspiring as anything else we’ve built to date. Dynamic cores and potent covers build a solid foundation – one enhanced by industry-leading longevity. A superior factory finish signifies its place atop the pecking order. Imposing. Purposeful. This is the kind of ball you look up to.

We stepped back and took the best features of our seven most popular coverstocks: Reactor™, R2S™, TX-16™, NRG™, SPEC™, GI-20™, and NeX™. What’s realized has more texture, more porosity, and more motility that combines the benefits of seven of the most iconic coverstocks to ever leave the Storm workshop. TractionX7 headlines the durability of TX-16, the backend of R2S, and the slower oil absorption rates of SPEC. Simply put, there’s versatility encased in TractionX7’s genome that stays put for as long as it stays in your bag.
